Introduction Clare County Council is progressing the N19 Shannon Airport Access Road Improvement Scheme in partnership with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and the Department of Transport (DoT). Fehily Timoney and Clandillon Civil Consulting are the appointed Technical Advisors to advance the project through the planning and design stages. The project is being managed by the Mid West National Road Design Office on behalf of Clare County Council.

Update No. 15: March 2023 - Design Update

Clare County Council is progressing the development of the N19 Shannon Airport Access Road Improvement Scheme in partnership with Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the Department of Transport. Fehily Timoney and Clandillon Civil Consulting are the appointed Technical Advisors to advance the project through the planning and design stages. The project is being managed by the Mid West National Road Design Office on behalf of Clare County Council. The Preferred Option that was announced in November 2021 included a combination of active travel measures for walking and cycling, improvements to public transport, along with new and improved road infrastructure between Drumgeely roundabout and Knockbeagh Point roundabout on approach to Shannon International Airport.  Since the conclusion of the Public Display of the Preferred Option, the design team have been progressing the design and environmental evaluation of the Preferred Option. The design of the Preferred Option has been developed following detailed consideration of landowner engagement, stakeholder feedback, environmental surveys, transport surveys and ground investigations. Design Update drawings are now available for viewing here, with hardcopy maps on display at Clare County Council’s Head Office in Ennis, Shannon Municipal District Office, and Shannon International Airport. Update No. 13: November 2022 - EIAR Scoping Report-Closed

Clare County Council intends to submit a planning application to An Bord Pleanála for the Project accompanied by an Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR). As part of the preparation of the EIAR, Clare County Council has prepared a Scoping Report. It is available to view under Consultations. All consultation received as part of this scoping process will be considered in the preparation of the EIAR to accompany the planning application.

Update No. 12: February 2022 - Phase 3 (Design and Environmental Evaluation) Commences

Phase 2 (Options Selection) concluded in January 2022 following Public Display of the Preferred Option which took place between 22nd November 2021 and 6th December 2021. Following this Public Display the Option Selection Report was finalised which presents the outcome of the option selection process and identifies the Preferred Option to be taken forward to the next stages of the scheme development.
